The Berenezia Letters
In May of 2002 a letter was posted on the Necrobabe Board from someone calling herself Berenice or Berenize. As you'll see, she claimed to have a deathwish that she'd gotten under control, but that recently she'd begun having sex with strangers, and was worried that she was lapsing into old habits. After her first assignation with a stranger, she seemed cheered, as if she'd found something to substitute for her old desires. I wrote a letter suggesting that maybe she shouldn't be so worried, she should just enjoy herself (a letter I now regret).
After an incident that struck her as rather violent and possibly leading to something more dangerous, she wrote again. Her letter caused a number of Necro regulars to ask for the salacious details, and, apparently in anger, she provided them. Of course, this only resulted in cries of "More! More!" and Berenice hasn't been seen since on the public board, despite both my and Sam's attempt to let her know that we'd be happy to listen (in a *non* salacious way).
However, Berenice wrote me privately about another incident, giving me permission to post it. This leads to a number of questions. Is she really seeking help? Is she just looking for an audience? Is she making the whole thing up? I don't think the latter, but anything is possible. You decide. If I get further letters I'll pass them on...I think the conflict she feels (or feigns) is an interesting one for a culture where the general attitude is one of glee.
