Nothing, that's what. Not a word. Not one. There was no way for her to know which one I'd picked up. No way.
But she just kept looking at my face, and she didn't say a word or do a thing. She felt a point hit her belly just above the point of her hip, and hit hard, and she couldn't know whether it was a hunk of wood or a sharp steel blade.

 

And she still didn't move. She still didn't say a word.
