I would suppose, Honored Traveler, that you do not know much of those you call our "gods" and "goddesses." Let me tell you something of them...

In our language, the word for "god" or "goddess" is Teotl, and the plural of that word is Teteo. In general, Teo means "sacred." If you understand the Lakota word Wakan, Iroquois Orenda, or Polynesian Mana, you already understand Teo. Teotl means Sacred One, no more, no less. The word is used in other ways, too; for instance, Calli means "house," and so a Teocallis is a "Sacred House," e.g., a temple.
