The Temple

I just found the text below collecting dust on my HD - it's 8 years old to the day (back when I was known as 'SK' or 'SnuffKing'). I don't remember if I wrote it and I don't remember what it meant (if anything). But maybe it will make some kind of sense to someone out there. So here goes:

The Temple

So what does he look for
This brave knight in his shining armour
Is it some dark mystery
Hidden in the old temple on the hill
Or the smiling young lady
Greeting him by the gate
Does she invite him into slavery
Or release
Does she encourage him
To undertake that eternal travel
From whence no one has ever returned
Is the face of God
Carved in those ancient stones
Or does the wisdom lie
In the lilies on the graves
Was the truth ever found?
Did he know in the beginning
And simply forgot
Her eyes beacons him to come closer
Dismount, disarm, surrender
Was it in the soft and tender kisses
Of those he left behind?
He doesn’t know
His blade must draw blood
For the love of God
Her body slumps against the gate
Did he not see a werewolf laughing
In the garden behind the steel bars
Where is the balcony from which
He can perceive all of creation?
The stars, eternal and unforgiving.
The moon looks down on the two
One living one dead
He must hurry, time is short
The villages are burning already
And so is the fever
The children scream
From unattended cradles
Her blood gushes out onto the road
On which he must travel
Through dust and dirt
To some pit just south of Paris
Where his brothers’ sword shall prevail
And at last let him rest
Glory or death
Was there ever a choice?
