Fayre Queen

She walked alone yet not alone.
Deer bounded here and there
and foxes traveled in search of hare.
But on this night of cold like stone,
She knew she did not walk alone.

"Come walk with me," Death cried.

"Come walk with me," said Death aloud.
"For many years this one has grown,
"His roots so deep have delved, have borne."
"Touch him not," she said, "he's sound.
And He forbore his touch demise.

"Come walk with me," Death wished.

"Proud Lady of webs and woe,
The olde oak is young tonight.
From me he need not fright.
And I am not your fear, your foe.
I wish to only walk awhile."

"Come walk with me," Death asked.

"Nay," she said, "for me you hold no fear,
Nor dreads Old Oak from your might this night,
His roots lie well out of your keen sight.
Go back and guzzle. Go drink your beer.
From me it is you should in proper fear."

"Come walk with me," Death said.

"Upstart youth," she added clear.
"What have I to do with you?
Hunt for other souls, we're too few.
And none near here are for you, Dear.
Beware, for my purpose here is clear."

"Come walk with me," Death smiled.

The deer fled with the hare in dread.
The hound did stay, a breathing shadow.
And other apparitions slunk so low.
She smiled, and laughed, and tossed her head,
From Lord Death Himself, she did not dread.

"Come walk with me," Death frowned.

"Do not hate nor fear me though others do"
"Yes, I shall cheat you all the same,
"For killing me you would get fame.
"Ye I do not fear from such as you.
"You banish hope is what you do."

"Come walk with me," Death trilled.

"Do you know where your kin have gone?
"Do you know if that place is good?
"Me you know just like this wood."
"But you are dark and cold", She said, "Like your hound,
"You have no soul nor can be safely bound."

"Come walk with me," Death pled.

But knew He now the time, His time, would never be.
She was not His nor had He hope.
Elf she was but never to die
Except by her will. She might fade or from Men flee,
But never she'd walk with Death. She was free.
