Trick

"Oh come on, what could you have possibly done at your time which was so cool. Old people are so predictable.", Said the little granddaughter Annie.
"Well I wasn't always that old," Said gramps with a nostalgic smile, "you see, when I was about your age I had a friend called Nancy. She wasn't my girlfriend, but we played allot."
"You mean like patient-doctor games ?", she said with a smile full of contempt.
"Well we might have done that too, I don't remember. But there was one thing I will never forget. Sit down and I'll tell you."

"It was a Halloween. We were too big for the routine of the kids, but we wanted to do something spooky. It wasn't my idea, but when she told me what she wanted to do I found it very exciting. We knew her parents will be out for the day so we used the house to do the things you do when I'm away, and then, like we planned, we went out to the patio. I took a rope from the house and she took a stool. After we fixed the scene she stood on the stool and noosed herself with a smile saying : 'boy, my parents are going to be totally freaked out when they find me'. I had to agree of course. I didn't have to tie her hands. I just took the stool away and watched her. I wasn't around when her parents showed up, but I'm sure that this little trick had a very strong and long lasting effect."

Annie's mouth was wide open when he finished. When she found her words again she said : "You mean ... she really died ? Come on, this is total bullshit. You can't expect me to believe that."

"Would I lie to my granddaughter ? Well, if you don't believe me I can show you her grave. It's not far away, its in the old graveyard."

When they got there, it was a bit dark already, as the days always become shorter this time of year. He showed her an old grave that read "Nancy Edmonds. Found hanging with a smile on her face." Annie had to lower herself to the grave so she could read better in the dark. Suddenly she felt a rope fall and tighten around her neck, and before she could say anything she was dangling from it, kicking, and pulling it with her hands.

"I just thought you could keep her company. She was very lonely all these years." Said gramps, and left.
