Lea's Birthday

Lea Thompson sat in a bar in southern California. It had been nearly two years since her series had been cancelled and she hadn't got a serious offer for work since. If the beautiful red head weren't depressed enough it was May 31 and her birthday. She smiled slightly as a man sat down across the table from her.
"You look like you're all alone in the world tonight." he commented.
"Nothing like a birthday to depress me." Lea said with a slight smile.
Thip. Lea jerked back in her booth seat involuntarily. She folded her hands tightly on her rounded belly and leaned over the table. Her eyes were closed tightly and her lips drawn back in a dimple cheeked grimace of pain. She leaned back slightly and opened her tear filled eyes to look down. A small jagged hole was surrounded by blood in the center of her belly. Thip. Lea shuddered as the bullet hit at her waist.
"Why?" Lea gasped as she looked across the table.
"I gave you a better part of the night for two reasons. With a bellyful of booze you don't feel the bullets that hit it so much, and if you cry out everyone will just think you're drunk." he said.
Lea almost smiled at the simplicity, but plausibility of his plan.
"Did...you have to do it...today?" Lea gulped.
"Sorry Lea, but it's the only day that you get so depressed that you actually drink that much." he said.
Thip. Thip. Lea was pushed back into the seat as two more bullets plowed into her guts.
"Ohh...shooo! Couldn't you put...somewhere besides my...belly?" Lea gulped.
He smiled as he got up and walked out the door. Lea tried to get up, but found that she had already lost too much blood to stand. Her weak moans for help went ignored as he had expected. The bar tender found her at closing time slumped over the table, her big light brown eyes wide, her mouth open in a pained expression. The blood on her belly beginning to dry and her heart long since stopped.
