Cozying Up To Cookie

I wrote this after seeing a site that was selling just such a microwave heatable doll as in the story, and saw the possibility. I've long intended to write a sequal, but have yet to do so. Some day, as with many!

Cozying Up To Cookie
(A Cautionary Tale)
By: Ay-Wun

"Oh mommy it's wonderful!" said two year old Millie as she hugged the warm cookie doll in her arms and delighted in the cinnamon aroma, "I could just hug my Cookie all day!!"

"Well when it cools," said Heather Haize, her mother, "Now watch closely, just put it in the microwave oven and push these buttons exactly like this."

Heather pushed the controls in the sequence required by the instructions that came with the gingerbread doll, then repeated and cleared them twice, so Millie could do it herself.

"Now try it once yourself." Her mother said, and Millie, excitedly did as she was told.

Millie took great joy in nuking and hugging her cookie doll, and had to show her friend Suzy, from up the street when she came over to play. Suzy loved Cookie too, and said she'd ask her mommy to get her one of her own. Suzy's parents had taught their little girl to be curious about all things, so she asked Millie how Cookie got so warm and smelled so nice. Millie said she didn't know because the door of the oven had to be closed for it to work.

"Well I'm gonna get in there and hold her while it happens," boasted Suzy, "You do the buttons after you shut the door."

Suzy crawled into the super size microwave holding Cookie in her arms, Millie shut the door behind her, pushed the buttons, and started the oven.

When the microwave stopped she opened the door crying,

"Did you see Suzy?! Did you see?!"

But Suzy laid in the oven unmoving with Cookie in her arms. Cookie was warm and cinnamony but Suzy was only a little warmer to Millie's touch and smelled no different than before. Millie took the doll from her arms and reclosed the door thinking,

"Well Suzy's a lot bigger than Cookie so maybe she takes longer."

So she put a lot more time on the microwave, and set it to start again, wondering why Suzy didn't say anything, why she seemed to have fallen asleep.

The longer sequence made, the seemingly sleeping, Suzy a little warmer, but still no cinnamony smell, so Millie tried it again, longer still. This time she began to smell, not the cinnamon of Cookie, but the wonderful aromas that came when mommy cooked a roast. When she opened the door Suzy looked strange so she took her by the arm to shake her awake, and a big sticky piece of Suzy came off in her hand.

"Oow!!" cried Millie, for it was very hot. Shaking her hand, she dropped it to the floor, then licked the grease and bits of Suzy from her sore hand.

"Mmmm! That tastes really good!" she thought as she picked up the now cooler piece from the floor and put it into her mouth. "Oh my, Suzy tastes super!!" she thought, but she didn't think it was normal for pieces to come off like that.

Millie went looking for her mommy then, but found only her four year old sister Mary, and brother Jason who was six. She told them about Suzy, and together with them, returned to the kitchen. Jason reached in and pulled suzy out, but she came to pieces as he did. She smelled so good that Mary took a taste of one of the pieces,

"Oh it tastes really yummy!!" she cried, holding it up for Jason to try.

Jason took a bite and it was so good, he tried more, and more, and more. The three siblings set to eating Suzy's sumptuous flesh, and didn't stop 'til nearly all of Suzy was gone. Then, looking at the mess that was all that remained of Suzy, they all knew that mommy would be mad if they left the mess there, so they all pitched in to clean it up.

Jason put the bones and parts they didn't eat down the heavy duty disposall in the sink. Suzy's head and the bigger bones that wouldn't go down the sink they threw over the fence for the neighbor's big dogs. Soon the kitchen was clean, and all three kids went back to playing. No one asked them what had happened to Suzy, as her parents didn't even know that she went there to play.

As they grew older, all three kids had dreams of eating Suzy, and remembered how delicious she tasted. Frequently they gazed at each other, and at others wondering how he or she might taste.
