TheRoommate

A story by Archer

It had been a long and stressful day of studying for her trigonometry exam. And then there were those endless discussions about President George Bush and Sodamn Whatshisname of Iran or Iraq -- Janice had a lot of trouble keeping those two countries straight. Well, Janice deserved a nice and relaxing bubble bath for all her effort. She was already starting to take off her clothes in anticipation before she even had the door to her dorm room open.

By the time, she was in the room and the door was closed, her books and her outerclothes were tossed in a heap on her bed. She let her lacy purple panties fall on the floor and was undoing the strap to her bra as she entered the bathroom.

The bathroom was a mess of newsmagazines and her roommate Ellen was already in the tub reading the latest issue of Time.

"How long are you going to be?" asked Janice.

"Just another half an hour or so. I've just got to finish this article about Saddam Hussein's second cousin once removed's uncle's sister's niece's foot fetish. A girl's got to keep informed about the situation in Iraq, you know."

Janice flew into a rage. "Enough of this Iraq shit. I just came home after a long day of trying to study my trigonometry while everybody is talking about Iraq and I just want a bubble bath..."

"Oh, just hold your horses," Ellen interrupted her. "I'll only be a half an hour or so..."

Janice snapped just as her bra slid off her arm into her right hand. She grabbed the the strap with her left hand, and wrapped it around the neck of her very surprised roommate.

The force of Janice's attack forced Ellen underwater and sent the latest issue of Time flying like a Scud missile to the other side of the bathroom.

Ellen tried to get her head above water, but she failed to get a foothold and slid butt first towards the front of the tub. Her head rose above water for one moment, but with Janice's efforts to push her down, she only succeeded in banging her head on the hard ceramic surface of the tub.

Now back underwater, Ellen noticed that the water near her head had a mix of red and yellow hues. She realized that she must have cut her head. She also noticed that it was becoming harder for her to defend herself -- she felt tired.

To Ellen, it seemed as though time was slowing down, but to Janice, Ellen's struggles seemed to end surprisingly quickly. She was still alive, but the head injury must have done quite a bit of damage. Although Ellen's strength had gone, she was still alive, so Janice firmly held her roommate's head underwater for several minutes. As she did so, she noticed a pleasant sensation of wetness "down there" (as her mother would say), and it wasn't the result of splashing water.

Janice felt Ellen's neck, her wrist and finally her breast, searching for a pulse. Nothing.

The water in the tub was cold, so she drained the tub and refilled it with hot water and a dash of bubble bath powder. "I'm going to take a bubble bath, Ellen," she said, now oblivious to the fact that her roommate was dead. "You can join me, but no talk of politics, okay?"

Ellen didn't answer.

Janice took Ellen's silence as a "yes".

Epilogue

As Janice got into the tub, she heard a knock on the door. "It's me, Alice." One of the freshmen in the room next door. "Jennifer and I want to talk with you about the article in the latest issue of Time..."

The door opened. Alice was unable to hear herself scream as her throat was sliced by a steak knife. Janice calmly went back to her bubble bath with Ellen. She was thinking of doing something tonight to get away from all this talk of Iraq. Maybe she would visit the Necrobabes Public Board...
